The IPOD is the music player of choice to most people and is seen as a status symbol. As such, most students and teachers know how to download music, videos, and games from ITunes to a video based IPOD. The gen 5 Ipod to the left is what I placed all my curriculum related YouTube videos for my instruction. I have since moved on to an Ipad at this time.
The primary benefits of an IPOD are to play music, videos, and podcasts. It can do so much more in education.
An IPOD can be a great tool to the teacher and student for a number of ADDITIONAL reasons:

Small and compact
Long battery life
Operational understanding by the user.
Additional accessories such as to connect to television/LCD projector and sound recording.
To benefit from the IPOD, you need to produce/acquire the content, format it to use on an IPOD, and share with your students.
Content: Online resources or teacher/student authored works
Format: There are many different formats that pictures, photographs, and videos are stored on a computer, camcorder, or digital camera. The format may need to be changed to work on a IPOD.
The site www.zamzar.com is a FREE online file conversion program. It will convert any video or graphic (photograph/picture) into any other form of video or graphic that meets your needs including IPOD.
Share: The finished products can be shared by emailing as attachments, CDs, through online storage areas (uploaded to Google Doc storage)
NOTICE As of 10-9-2012, YouTube.com has forbidden Zamzar from downloading videos from YouTube. I am now using Wondershare as my YouTube video down-loader application. It is unfortunately not free, but it meets my video needs as a teacher. Do not bother paying for a hard copy CD of their application. YouTube has a habit of changing protocols that makes a CD copy of Wondershare a poor investment. Use the online updates provided by Wondershare instead.
